The Rhema Partnership exclusively supports three thriving charities in South India: The RMS Trust which provides vital support for orphan and disabled children as well as primary healthcare; The Rhema Religious and Charitable Trust which runs a rural Christian university and church planting ministry and The Antioch College and Seminary which equips graduates to serve communities more effectively.
The Rhema Partnership was formed in 2003 after Richard Lloyd met Bishop Samuel Gnanaprahasam in London in 1999. Samuel invited Richard to visit his church in the Cumbum Valley, rural South India in order to witness all the ways in which they wanted to help the poorest people. Richard has visited on 18 occasions since 2000 and with the hard work of Bishop Samuel and his team and support from many people in the UK these projects have been established and developed.
The work of The Rhema Partnership is distinctive for three reasons. First, the projects we support are entirely the vision of local, poor Indians who have taken responsibility for setting up, running and leading the work. These projects are truly the poor, training the poor to serve the poor. We believe this is by far the most effective model of development. Secondly, the Trustees of The Rhema Partnership strive to provide excellent accountability. The Chairman, along with other members of the UK Board make annual visits to the projects in India. There is an annual joint board meeting in India when priorities, strategy, budgets, expenditure and fund-raising are addressed.
Finally, The Rhema Partnership is led by volunteers ensuring very low operational costs. All Trustees pay their own expenses enabling all donations to go directly to the children, students and poor people of India and the staff who make the projects happen. We can therefore confidently report that all the projects we support and run are flourishing.
Here are the projects that we run:
